What is Java?

 Java is a very simple, high-level , secured,multi-threaded, platform independent,object-oriented programming language.

Developed by James Gosline,Mike Sheridan and Patrick Naughton in 1991. 


Why Java? 

Developed to achieve platform independency for developing "internet based" business applications.

Initially it is called OAK (tree)
It went by the name Green Project later and was later renamed Java.
SUN Microsystem released the first version Java 1.0 in 1996
